So it finally SOLD and after 12 years, almost to the month, we are getting ready to move out, we need to sell lots more of our belongings to clear out the house, which will also fund part of our travels, but mainly as our storage going forward is either a small van or a smaller storage unit.
We had put the house on the market with Purple Bricks, but after 9 weeks they still hadn’t sold out house, from day 1 with Purple Bricks things hadn’t gone well as their photographer was the agent using a point and shoot camera with a very narrow lens and no idea what she was doing, then the advert description was about 30 words, no room measurements or descriptions or really anything other than asking the viewer to call Purple Bricks. We later found out that viewers were having to give all sorts of personal details in order to even book a viewing, so it was no wonder we hardly had anyone coming to view the house, and anyone that did come to view the house wasn’t contacted again by Purple Bricks to get some feedback. What a total shambles it all was and yet Purple Bricks still want £1300 from us for not finding a buyer and for providing a pathetic service which in UK law is clearly not fit for purpose. So it’s just amazing that our new Estate Agents found a buyer in less than 2 weeks and just 2 viewings, mainly as they cared about our business, they called around to buyers looking at houses like ours and did loads of work to get the right people to view the house. I also complained to Purple Bricks but they said they work “with” the customer to collaborate on the sale and therefore me taking the photos and me writing the ad wording was all in their idea of the way they like to work.
So we now have 8 to 12 weeks to sell everything, pack cherished items into a small storage unit and then plan our start of the trip. We have a couple of things in October we need to stay in the UK for but from Mid-October we will be heading south, into Europe and down to Portugal, where it’s still going to be warm in the winter months.
