This weekend we thought we would escape for a quick one night stay in one of our favourite places – Anglesey. We love Anglesey as it seems to be far more welcoming for Campervans and wild camping and as long as we leave no trace and try not to be too rowdy, we hope it always will be 🙂
John drove us over on the Saturday morning which I thought was wonderful as I was a tad hungover after a girls night out with the family on Friday. I was very glad that the newly tested Inverter was all installed so I knew I could grab a coffee when we stopped, before the sun went down (So I didn’t sap all the power before night time).
We headed straight over to to our favourite pub for some lunch – The Breeze Hill hotel, we stopped off here by chance last time we visited Anglesey and John had the BEST gammon he has ever had here so we had to give it another try. The staff are so lovely and friendly and always fetch out some water for Cooper. John had the Gammon and I needed stodge so badly so I had the Steak, Guiness and mushroom pie – both went down a treat, almost silence while eating which is unusual for us as you can imagine! We packed up our things and decided to head to the Co-op a little further down the road to grab some snacks for the evening.
While I was paying this lovely lady started chatting, said she recognised my accent as she was originally from Sale and had moved just down the road from the pub and was having an early mothers day lunch with her family. She reminded me so much of John’s mum so we had a lovely chat waiting. When we left and were sat in the Van they all walked past with this lady’s son having a good look at the van so I rolled down the window and offered them a tour – seems they had just retired and were thinking of getting a van just like ours. They were so lovely when we left I had that feeling like we should have swapped details as they loved the Tour De France too and were after van advice. I wonder if they’ll see this and get in touch..
We drove to the shop and bought all kinds of naughty snacks for the evening but no actual food.. Haha – which is typical for us – that decision would come back to bite us later.. 🙂
We decided this time to have a look at another beach that John had earmarked to stay at – we do have our lovely favourite pebble beach in a super secret location but we thought we’d try this and boy we were glad we did. It was a little busy when we arrived over a quaint little stone hump bridge so we pulled up and bundled up in coats and hats to give Coop a nice run out. Of course what that really means is that I bundle up and walk Coop while John gets Drones, cameras, gimbals, phones and whatever other technical paraphernalia he might need and have a slightly elevated look around 🙂 Coop was in super excited mode bless him – he does absolutely adore the beach and because he a giant narna decided to run rings around me while I waited to see how long John was going to be. As I was taking some lovely piccies with my phone a fair way away I could see some of the people from the group of 3 T4 vans that were parked slightly away from where we were, walking over to speak to John – he always has people talking to him while he’s out with the drone which is fab. He took it right out over the beach head on the other side of the bay and still wasn’t far enough out to be over the sea. This was good as far as I was concerned as I was a little worried about the sign we drove past that said “Car Park Liable to flooding at high tide” but a quick reccy with the drone and a little help from google we could see that high tide was at 7.30 so we would at least be awake for it so we could double check – of course we had the added bonus that the T4’s were all parked closer to the sea than we were so if we heard a bunch of engines starting at silly o’clock we’d know to get a move on!! Haha..
After a silly busy week with work we took the opportunity to stay in the van and catch up on a bit of Netflix and have a shandy for the evening. When Earth Hour arrived we were happily sat in our self contained Solar powered Van with Fairy lights running off the batteries on a lovely dark beach where we could see the stars so I hope what we did fit the bill.. We had a lovely nights sleep thanks to John (finally) getting round to “installing” the perspex sheet at the foot of the bed – the bed is a little high and the windows are at different heights on each side (another Auto fail feature) so our feet brush against the concertina blinds while we sleep so this was to stop that happening.. And it DID!! 🙂 Yay!! John slept incredibly well which was great as he’s been full of a cold lately so I had to sleep with Snorey Mcgrorey all night – thank goodness for my Kindle.
We had a lovely lazy morning, Coop decided he wanted some cuddles too so we all fell asleep again for a bit longer. The clocks going forwards (on Mothers Day – what’s with that??) did mean we had to get a wriggle on so we could get to John’s mum and Dad’s at a decent time so John walked Coop and I got some bacon butties on the go in the ridgemonkey. It really does make the BEST bacon and cheese for butties. Just have to walk that thin line of crispy and burned a bit more I think but they were epic! I was planning on trying out our little portable gas BBQ/Griddle but it was waaaay too windy outside for that so that’s a job for our next outing.
We packed up and headed over to north wales proper, remembering not to go over the Menai Bridge as it is just a little too narrow for my liking 🙂 What a lovely little break! We will definitely be back to that beach again, hopefully with some camping buddies too!
